A rural Alberta riding - guaranteed slam-dunk for the Alliance.

Elk Island and St. Albert are the standing guards by Edmonton's sides, each with a cushion of agricultural vastness, a few blobs of outer suburbia and one monster satellite burg apiece (St. Albert there, Sherwood Park here). Of the two, this may be somewhat [chuckle] less likely to fall into opposition hands...

This riding has, is and always will be a right wing strong hold. I don't believe Ken Epp even has to campaign.

Elk Island isn't as conservative as it seems. The Provincial Liberals own the northern half of the riding around Redwater and they won Fort Saskatchewan and Sherwood Park in 1993. If the Liberals had a strong local candidate and Paul Martin for a leader, they'd have a decent shot here. As it stands, Epps will win a landslide.
