Tom Pendry is stepping down after thirty-one years service. His replacement as Labour candidate in this rock-solid Labour stronghold is James Purnell, a 31-year old Downing Street insider who first started working for Tony Blair while Labour were in opposition ten years ago. Purnell has a promising parliamentary career ahead of him and will be able to count on this seat for as long as he wants it. |
