This should be a very fun race to watch. Although the soft spoken Keith Ashfield is very low key he is also likeable and the folks seem to have taken to him. This is a 'small c' conservative seat that went COR in 91 and only went Liberal in 1995 because of a PC/COR split could be a toughy for the Liberals in 2003. Although the only thing Ashfield has done is get the new on ramp to the TCH it was the only thing he promised in 1999... that's more than most PC MLAs can claim, esp on transportation issues. The spoilers chould be Liberal momentum (which seems to be building over insurance) and the fact that Ashfield's heart isn't in it... he didn't want to re-run and was pushed into it by the Tories as a newcomer might not have been able to stand up to former Labour Minister and Graham's Chief of Staff, Kingston. If Ashfield's heart isn't in it and Joan has soem red wings under her sails it could be a squeak for the grits.

syllap, I know you have predicted that just about every seat in the province will go Liberal (this ain't 1987!), yet I agree with you on this one. Joan Kingston will be able to draw on a lot of previous support and likely angry motorists in the rural southern area of the riding will go over to the Liberals en masse. NDP candidate Kay Nandlall will probably attract little appeal, only among academics in New Maryland subdivisions, leaving Kingston open to scoop up most anti-Tory votes.

Keith Who? Well he got his overpass, but that's about it. Former MLA Kingston still popular in her own organization, and given the Liberal party's non-competitive position in Fredericton South I anticipate them focussing their efforts in this riding. Way too close to call at this time.

Rematch between Keith Ashfield and Joan Kingston, but this time Kingston is hungrier than ever for a victory, expect her to upset Ashfield who won because of the Tory typhoon last time, no landslide this time.....Liberal gain....
