Notwithstanding the rumours claiming that Denis Coderre is in difficulty, fact remains that he is extremely popular in his riding and has an incredibly strong organization. The Bloc is reportedly spending $350,000 in this riding (as well as in the neighbouring Papineau riding) according to The Subarban, but me thinks they chose the wrong ridings. The race is of course much closer than usual, but Coderre will prevail with about 5 % more votes than the Bloc. |

Cordere will win this, but the margin will be much closer than last time -- a strong Bloc candidate might have pulled this off, but from what I'm seeing and hearing from friends in the riding, the campaign will fall short -- but a Bloc upset here is still not out of the question if the dynamics of the final days of the campaign lead to a complete liberal collapse |

Liberal hold due to the Governor General being a Haitian - and "hot" in her own words. Codere has the Cabinet post that matters to immigrants. It seems that neither factor in his favour is an accident. However, to be sure, Codere might want to make some loud noises about recognizing the credentials of immigrant professionals, and then go steal some Green and NDP votes with some environmental noise or other, as Liberals often do. |

This riding did go for the Bloc Quebecois in 1993, which is why I have been reluctant to call it, but since the numbers have more or less stabilized and all seat projection models still show this as a Liberal riding, I think Denis Coderre is reasonably safe, although people in neighbouring ridings like Ahuntsic and Honore-Mercier could be in trouble. |

Denis Coderre n'a rien à craindre.

This is just to confirm our (much) earlier prediction. Besides the fact that Coderre is popular and besides the fact that the Gomery stuff, though still stewing, is not the explosive situation it was in Quebec last spring. Top it off, Martin scored big with the Haitian community (which is well represented in Bourassa)by naming Michaelle Jean as governor general. This is probably enough to bring Haitians to the polls in droves in favour of the Liberal. |

This will be close but Coderre is popular and we think he may squeak through this time. There is enough of a non-francophone community that will likely cringe, shudder, vote liberal and then scrub themselves in a shower. Many do not want another October 1995, a very frightening time. |

Coderre's fate may have been sealed today by Benoit Corbeil's testomny at Gomery today that $5000.00 in Adscam money was handed over to Coderre's election team in 1997, the year he took the seat from Bloquiste Osvaldo Nunez. Imagine! wasn't it just over a year ago when conventional wisdom had Paul Martin making short work of the Bloc (knocking them down to 10-12 seats by some estimates) and saving fdederalism? |

this is what you call a "will happen" The margin last time was 21K to 16K in terms of votes, only a 5K gap, with the liberals poised to lose more than half their votes in the province, this one is simple math. This riding has gone Bloc in the past, and the tories re too far behind to pose a threat as a federalist protest vote. The Bloc will win this riding, however unfortunate that may be. |

This is by no means a safe liberal seat. Coderre did obtain 50% of voter support in the last election and was ahead of his closest opponent by 12% but recent polls have now showed that the liberals dropped an average of 14% since the 2004 election. If you add the increased support of the Bloc québécois into the equation, the logical result is a bloc victory in Bourassa. These are the facts. |

Denis Coderre might hold his riding since the liberals were polling in the 20s going into the last election, yet got 34%. But with the liberals at all time low in Quebec and the Bloc Quebecois at an all time high, this may very well go Bloc this time around. The Bloc knows they will win all 54 ridings they won last time around and they won't win any of the West Montreal ridings so they will put all their resources into Beauce, Brome-Missiquoi, Brossard-La Prairie, Outremont, Jeanne-Le Ber, Papineau, Bourassa, Ahuntsic, Honore-Mercier, Laval-les Iles, Hull-Aylmer, Pontiac, and Gatineau to ensure they win these. The Bloc could win over 65 seats, which would be great for the separtist movement, but a worse nightmare possible for the federalists. |

Denis Coderre will not likely survive this time he was tied in with either Groupeaction or Everest, I forget which.. This one went Bloc in '93, I think the Bloc will get it back this time. |
