Alberta Grit |
I have campaigned in this riding for both 2004 elections, and seriously, the only parts of the riding the Grits could hope to win in Canmore. Even a star candidate, the former mayor of Canmore couldn't win here! Airdrie is the largest population center here, and they are divided preey neaty into 3/4 Tories, 1/4 Grits. And Banff is extreemly Green. This riding will be intersting to watch and see if the Greens will actualy pull ahead of the Grits, of if the Liberals will be able to keep their second place finish. |

Like all of rural Alberta, this is an extremely safe Conservative seat. Myron Thompson doesn't even have to show up for a single party function or do any campaigning and he will get a massive majority. This ultra-conservative (dare I say "redneck") area falls right in line with his cowboy character and will go to Thompson in droves. No one else will be close. One interesting thing to watch: the Greens will likely finish (a very distant) second here with the presence of Banff... Predicted results: CPC 74%, GRN 10%, NDP 7%, LIB 5%, others 3%. |

Bear and Ape |
Though Banff may be the most famous location within this riding, it is not the major population center, so the granola-ish/out-doorsy type aren't going to make much of a dent in this Conservative strong hold. Mr. Thompson could win this even if he spent the entire campaign sipping tea at the Chateau Lake Louise. |

Thompson and Klein have a few things in common. First, they are "redneck albertans". second, they speak thier mind. third, when they do so, they often put their foot in thier mouth. and fourth, both will be re-elected in their ridings till they quit politics. No question, CPC win. |

Myron Thompson's cowboy hat and redneck, right wing straight talker seem to work just fine here. Even though Banff may not like his harsh Conservatism, they only make up about 5-10% of the riding's population, so this will be another conservative landslide. Get use to more cowboy hats on parliament hill after next election. |
