I have lived here for the past ten years. This riding is Conservative. Every election we crush the opposition with %60+ voting. Nothing has changed and we still feel the same way about the liberal and NDP being soft on crime. Also this area is against gun registration.

The only close election in this riding in recent years was in 1997, when then PC-er Brian Pallister came within five points of winning this seat from Reform (as this had been the only Reform win in Manitoba in 1993). Party-switcher Pallister won comfortably in 2000 as an Alliancer, and ever since it's been the best riding in Manitoba for the Tories, not to mention one of the best in the country. I see no reason why that tradition wouldn't continue under Candice Hoeppner.

In 2004 and 2006, this was the Tories best showing percentage wise outside of Alberta. Never mind the MP Candace Hoeppner championed the scrapping of the gun registry which is extremely unpopular here. The real question is will this be the best Tory riding outside Alberta or not.

A traditionally conservative rural manitoba riding , obviously an easy hold for an mp like Candice Hoeppner . especially when considering her recent push against the unpopular long gun registry . a federal government program which was not ever popular in rural ridings like these . its doubtful the other parties will even be that competitive here whenever the next election is.
