While Rempel acquitted herself well as a next-gen urban Con in Calgary North Centre, Diane Ablonczy's retirement gave her a useful ‘out’ in case Notleymania or some such equivalent trickled up into the federal sphere. So rather than escaping by the skin of her teeth a la Len Webber, she lost only three polls in 2015. And so, now she's a next-gen *suburban* Con (and not so next-gen now that she's less than a year younger than the leader).

It remains to be seen whether Michelle Rempel is a future leader of the Conservative Party, but at a minimum she is becoming one of those bright shining stars like a Flora MacDonald or John Crosbie or Sheila Copps; a well known personality in the party, popular with the base. She will easily win re-election this year, probably in much greater numbers, and is most likely the Honourable Member for Calgary-Nosehill for as long as she chooses to be.
