This seat will be very close. Suburban North London is moving against the Conservatives and Sydney Chapman will do well to hold on here.

Romford in reverse: the biggest nail-biter among London Tory seats. An architect, Syd Chapman is, together with Patrick Cormack, a rare "Arts Tory" within a perceived milieu of Thatcherite philistines and Pinochetistas. Perhaps, as a medal for surviving the 1997 earthquake, constituents'll go by sentiment and give him another term--now, that'll sober those grinning Blairite Pac-Men up...
