| A traditional Labour stronghold at the heart of the East End which former firefighter Jim Fitzpatrick should hold without any trouble. Nevertheless it will be interesting to see how much support the tiny far-right British National Party can muster in this multiracial area - last time they saved their deposit with about 8% of the poll, and actually elected a local councillor here on the Isle of Dogs in a 1993 byelection for Tower Hamlets Council. With asylum and immigration issues at the forefront the BNP could well push their vote higher. |
