Take two constituencies, one Labour-inflected (Dudley East) and one (before a 1994 by-election) Tory-inflected (Dudley West), fuse them and then cut them perpendicularly, and presto--Dudley North and Dudley South, two marginals! Both of which leaned Labour in '92 terms, thus robbing the Tories of any chance in heck in either 1997 or 2001... |
