This is the seat of Shakespeare and one of the wealthiest constituencies in the UK. This is an A-type Conservative seat and John Maples, despite a checkered political past, should have no problems here. |

I agree that the Tories will certainly hold this seat with a huge majority, but can someone please tell me why this seat is called Stratford-on-Avon when the main town is Stratford-upon-Avon. |

Weird Warwick, all Shakespearean convolutions; it went all-Labour but one in '97--but in that one, the Tories took over from a Labour member! (Party-jumper Alan Howarth, who fled for Welsh electoral safety that year.) And one of those places where it's actually LD that ekes out the nominal second-place position--and still too dauntingly far behind... |
