Alan Beith faces a bit of a fight here in Berwick. On the basis of the 1999 European Election result, he would have convincingly lost the seat to the Conservatives and there is just a chance that this could happen in 2001. However, at the same time, it looks as if the Lib Dems have been strengthening themselves locally and what with Alan Beith being a reasonably well-known and popular local figure, he will almost certainly scrape through. |
