A fascinating contest, further complicated by the recent resignation of Peter Mandelson. Given his majority at the last election, he should just about scrape through but there could be a significant swing against him, even though he was effectively cleared of wrongdoing. The Tories are a poor second here and will be looking to win some votes on the back of Mandelson's sleaze factor. However, the Lib Dems won the last set of local elections (winning a greater proportion of the vote than Labour). Mandelson will probably win but it will be interesting to see who ends up coming second. |
