A constituency that is divided between two towns on either side of the Mersey - Widnes, which is very much a traditional Lancashire town (though boundary changes in the early 70s put it into Cheshire) and Runcorn, home to much 'overspill' population from Liverpool. Both towns are solidly Labour so Derek Twigg has nothing to worry about. The rivalry between the two towns can lead to high jinks on Halton Borough Council though, with Labour councillors in Runcorn running under a rebel 'Runcorn Labour' banner. |
