This constituency, based around the Manchester council estate of Wythenshawe, has been Labour for thirty-seven years and will remain so for at least another 37! In 1997 Alf Morris, the local MP since 1964 and a prominent campaigner for the rights of disabled people, retired to make way for new candidate Paul Goggins. Goggins has completed the first of what are sure to be many terms in Parliament. This is the sort of place which may be susceptible to a very low turnout, but the result is not in any doubt. |
