I'm not willing to call this one -- it will almost certainly be close -- but, my inclination is to suspect that the national woes of the Tories will hold them back here. Given the increased attention to strategic voting around the country, I'm guessing that Labour will keep Sykes out ... but not by much.

And yet another of Labour's whoomp-there-it-is gains of '97, this time in the unlikely terrain of Yorkshire's illustrious if somewhat dogeared seaside resorts. And a rematch, with the Tory leader in an adjoining seat to boot. But over in Yorkshire, what Hague giveth, Townend could very well taketh away...
