At our local candidates forum, Thompson of the NDP and Carlstrom of the Liberals shone. The Green Party was a joke. The biggest disappointment was Penson of the Conservatives. He was rattled, ducked questions, and read from notes, rather than being able to speak his own mind. Not surprising, as he hasn't been much of a Member of Parliament for us. |

If ever there was an rural Alberta riding which should go Liberal, this is it. The Conservative incumbent, Penson, has been lackluster is his performance, possibly one of the poorest MP's of the Alberta Tories. His campaign has also been poor, featuring personal attacks on his competitors rather than substantial platform presentation. If ever there was a Liberal who should be elected in rural Alberta, it is Carlstrom. He is bright, committed, running an excellent ideas-based campaign, and with a terrific community record. The election results, unfortunately, will most probably favour mediocrity, and Penson will be returned. |

This race features one of the poorest Conservative candidates in Alberta against one of the best Liberals. Sad to say, Penson will likely win. But an upset in favour of Carlstrom would be the ideal result. |

I've been watching this riding very closely as I grew up in the area, and to see the Conservative candidate stooping to comments such as "all the area needs is to be represented by 'another' liberal lawyer" suggests that when you have nothing to stand on, it is okay to take personal shots at your competition. This kind of juvenille behaviour suggests that Charlie needs to look at what he stands for. A persons' value is what he stands for and supports, not what his profession happens to be. |

it must have been 50 years since this riding voted anything but a Conservative party. |

At 65%, it was a low total in rural Alberta for the Alliance in 2000. Neverthless, I think the CPC will hang on to this riding. |
