In 2008, the NDP finished second here (an extremely distant second, but second nonetheless). Also the vote differential they have to make up against the Bloc incumbent is huge, the clearly sustained nature and depth of the NDP surge this year in Quebec convinces me that they will do it here. They are helped by the fact that their candidate here is a native of the riding, a relatively well-known local non-profit leader, community activist and newspaper columnist -- the presence of a credible and evidently well-liked local candidate should be enough to allow them to surf the orange wave to victory here.

Le Bloc et le Bloc sans aucun doute! La r?gion de Saint-J?r?me est un des bastions forts du Bloc depuis sa cr?ation et l'?lection de 1993. Bien qu'une victoire Bloc soit in?vitable, la marque n?o-d?mocrate sera ? surveiller dans les prochaines ?lections, celle-ci ayant fait des gains importants: +4.27% de 2004 ? 2006 et +7.28% de 2006 ? 2008, en termes absolus. Il s'agit d'un des plus fortes hausses pour le NPD dans les circonscriptions du Qu?bec. Mais pour l'instant, avec la majorit? de 39% amass?e par Monique Guay sur le NPD, le Bloc sera r??lu dans Rivi?re-du-Nord.
