Sylvia Heal, MP for Halesowen and Rowley Regis and a Commons deputy speaker, is standing down at the general election.
The Labour MP said she did not want another five years of working 12 to 14 hour days, six days a week.
‘My commitment to my constituents means I could not do the job in any other way,’ she said.
Ms Heal, who won the West Midlands seat in 1997, said she would continue to work hard for the constituency.
