Labour's bid to re-capture this seat got a boost from the local election results. East Lothian was one of the very few places where they made gains. Labour became the largest party in East Lothian local council, gaining one seat, despite the Conservatives gaining four seats. SNP slipped form nine to six. |

From the Guardian after May 5th local elections: 'Party strategists said some of the results suggested the SNP would face a tough battle to hold on to some of the 56 Westminster seats it won in 2015 in June?s general election. Labour was delighted by its result in East Lothian, one of its few target seats in June, and Tory hopes of winning rural seats were buoyed by strong results in Stirling, the Borders and the north-east. In East Renfrewshire, a key general election target seat, they took 15,588 first preference votes against 9,886 for the SNP.' |
