I was astonished, today, when I drove through this riding -- it's a sea of orange France Gelinas signs. There were Tony Ryma signs, as well, but almost all of them were on public property. If you drive north along the old 69 Hwy, there are entire neighbourhoods where every single house has a Gelinas sign. I've been through a lot of elections in all corners of the province and I've never seen anything like this. Even driving west toward Chelmsford, although there are fewer signs in total, at least 85% of the signs on private properties are Gelinas signs. I think this will be a decisive NDP victory with at least two-thirds of the vote.

The time for this to be vulnerable was last time, as an open seat. Now we're probably looking at a 1990-scale majority for Gelinas. Which, come to think of it, is not unlike what just happened hereabouts federally.

Ryma is well known, such that Gelinas’ incumbency is a negligible factor in this race. I’d say it’s too close to call at the moment, but it’s safe to say this is a 2-way race. As the campaign unfolds, we should have a clearer picture of which candidate holds the advantage.

This is an easy ndp hold , nickel belt is the most ndp friendly of the 2 sudbury ridings. Tony Ryma is well known from his time on ctv northern news but residents of the north tired of the liberal government by now. he makes the liberal campaign a bit more interesting than if someone else had ran but still don't see the other parties posing much of a challenge to the ndp here.

Boy did the NDP ever do well in finding Shelly Martel's replacement. Classy, friendly and popular, France G?linas is one of the most respected and well-liked members of the Ontario legislature and she's only been there four or five years.
