A new riding in the heart of federal Reform territory and in the middle of a sea of provincial Liberal Red and the mayor of Chilliwack running for the Liberals - another riding where the NDP will probably run third to just about any other party.

The Liberals have nominated John Les who served as mayor of Chilliwack for 13 years. In an unpopular move, he ran in the 1997 Federal election for the Liberals and was thrashed by Chuck Strahl. The provincial election is a different matter though. The Chilliwack is a conservative area and the NDP has never done well. The Liberals will get at least 60% of the popular vote in this riding and the B.C. Reform will finish second.

This new riding is in the conservative Fraser Vally, and its boundaries are smack-dab in the middle of the bible-belt. A sure win for the BCLiberals. The only unknown is how well the new Unity party does.
