A very strong BQ candidate will ensure a Liberal loss. The numbers are just not there for the Liberals in Quebec. It'll take a major stumble by (the now well seasoned) Duceppe for the Liberals to gain ANY Quebec seat. They're too busy trying to save places like Louis-Hebert and Chicoutimi to gain new ground.

Paul Martin forced the nomination of Dawson as a candidate in Beauport. It belies Martin's wish to include more women into politics. Three women were battling for the Liberal nomination in Beauport before the Martin's team cancelled the contest to impose Dennis Dawson. I don't know what's going on with the federal Liberals, but this year they've got the peculiar habit to meddle with their nomination in every corner of the country. That's not a good sign, but they're others that don't bode well for the LPC.
Voters in Quebec City and the surrounding neighbourhoods are not easily attracted by star candidates like Dennis Dawson. Provincial Liberals do know something about it, and the LPC should ...
The federal riding covers parts of the provincial riding of Montmorency. In 1998, for the provincial election, the QLP had Jacques Langlois, a popular mayor of the former municipality of Beauport, as candidate. And yet they lost the riding to the PQ.
At the federal level in 1993, Jean Pelletier (yes ! Jean Pelletier, the VIA Chairman who was recently fired for his comments on Myriam Bédard) was a star candidate for the Liberals in the Quebec federal riding. Pelletier was mayor of Quebec City from 1977 to 1989. He was defeated by an unknown BQ candidate who happened to be a woman. I heard he never swallowed his defeat ...
The last straw for the federal Liberals in the region concerns the present unpopularity of the Charest's Liberal government. Many voters may like to punish the LPC by proxy for the provincial Liberals' deeds like many voters punished the BQ to Liberal's favor because of the forced municipal mergers in 2000.
Consequently I presently put Beauport in BQ's column, based on the dismal performance of the federal Liberals in the province since February. I'd also consider Charlesbourg, Louis-St-Laurent, and Quebec as wins for the Bloc. The only interesting race will be in Louis-Hébert, just because Hélène Scherrer, for the Liberals, is a cabinet member.

While I cant predict the riding's results, I would like to point out that this is a historic bell-weather riding, that tends to vote with the party which wins the province. The result last time were so close, either the BQ or Liberals can win.
