Unfortunately the BC Liberals could run a fence post in the riding and they would take it as it only votes for right wing conservative candidates. Richard Neufeld represented this riding for a few years and he jumped ship so many times to various right wing parties one had to have score card. Did I mention fence posts?

Like it's counterpart in Peace River South, North was a Socred riding that stayed Socred in '91, went Reform BC in '96, and BC Liberal by enormous margins in 2001 and 2005. The real question is: will the NDP bother to open a campaign office?

The throne of King Richard the Oilhearted now lies vacant, Neufeld having been summoned to the comfy fur in Ottawa after eight years of uncompromising fealty to the energy and mining sectors. The only political drama here will be who wins the BCLib nomination, with a gaggle of municipal pols from our own collection of Wasillas chasing the nod at present. On the Albertan side of the Rockies, Peace River North has the political inclinations to match. Unless mass amnesia sets in and the population forgets that they're allowed to like these Liberals but hate the other kind, election night will be short indeed.
