The three Burnaby ridings tend to follow provincial trends and will swing to the Liberals this time around. None have strong sitting members and all were won by about 7% last time. Liberal gain |

While I agree with DMB about Burnaby following provincial trends, it is not true to say that there are no strong incumbent MLAs. Joan Sawicki is very popular in Burnaby (she was on city council in the late '80s), served with distinction and integrity as Speaker and Environment Minister, and is recognized as one of the brighter lights in the NDP caucus. But it's true that none of the current crop of candidates has the name recognition or profile of a Svend Robinson, who has held the federal seat here for the NDP since 1979. |

In the last election, Joan Sawiki and John Nuranney showed quite a bit of mutual respect. Lot of people who were not overly keen about NDP voted for Joan becuase she is honestly one of the few NDP members that are respectable. This time around, NDP features someone that is also respectable, but have almost no profile in the community. It is time for John to take his seat in the Leg. |

I gotta give props to Joe Keithley, aka Joey Shithead, former frontman of Canadian punk rock icons D.O.A. He has the same rebel charm that keeps getting Svend reelected, and with the Green Party surging in the polls province-wide, this could be one of the ridings where they pull ahead to win. |
