It hasn't *exactly* been continuously Conservative since 1984; remember how future provincial Liberal leader Jon Gerrard hit 40% in the former Portage-Interlake in 1993. But...yeah, now it's pretty solid, it's ceded some First Nations-heavy stuff to Churchill, and Selkirk itself is but a sad little shadow of onetime NDP hallowed ground. In fact, keep in mind that nearly as much time has passed since the beginning of the Schreyer government, as that which separated the Schreyer government from the Winnipeg General Strike. You can't go home again (although Jack'n'Ed certainly *tried* in 2006) |

Current mp James Bezan is running for re-election in this mostly rural riding . its been a fairly reliable conservative riding although has at times been an ndp target . its likely to stick with the current mp . |

While the NDP made this race interesting with a star candidate in the '06 election-prediction-go-round, this riding has not gone anything but some-form-of-conservative since 1984. Unless the NDP become popular in rural prairie ridings again, this will stay solidly conservative. |
